Irssi installed on webserver

This week I found out that I could install irssi, my favorite irc client, on my server hosted over at Dreamhost. With the help of Joe_CoT from the Ubuntu US loco team, I found a blog article outlining the steps, which I followed exactly except for one minor change. It seems that the glib package is not offered as a .tar.gz, instead it is a .tar.bz2 file. That’s all I needed to change.

So instead of ssh’ing to my laptop to be on IRC elsewhere, I just have irssi running instead screen on my webserver and ssh to it to be on IRC. It is quite handy; on IRC 24/7 and I can remotely connect from anywhere. Gotta say I love terminal apps. Next on my list is a terminal email application.
